Applied Sociology

The Applied Sociology program gives students a solid understanding of the culture and structure of human interaction. They will actively apply this knowledge in real life research settings.

Communication Studies

The study of Communication explores how people use messages to generate meanings within and across various contexts, cultures, and channels. Our Communication Studies degree allows students to master multiple facets of communication: face-to-face and mediated interactions between people, among groups and among organizations. CRIMINAL JUSTICE

Criminal Justice is the application of law, social and natural sciences to the social phenomenon of crime and delinquency. The discipline addresses definitions, causation, prevention, legal processes and treatment of offenders.

ENGLISH

We offer a master’s degree in Technical Writing & Digital Rhetoric and several bachelor’s degrees, minors, and certificates in Creative Writing, English Education, Literary Studies, and Professional & Technical Writing. We also provide clubs, programs, internships, and unique opportunities to help you get to know other students, build your resume, and prepare for your career.

HISTORY AND POLITICAL SCIENCE

The History program prepares students to pursue advanced study in history, law, international relations, journalism, or numerous other professional fields.

HUMANITIES & PHILOSOPHY

The Humanities program explores humanity through art, literature, philosophy, culture, history, and politics using multiple disciplinary lenses. The program is for creative individuals who are looking for a diverse education that is both theoretical and pragmatic.

MEDIA STUDIES

Media is the most prevalent aspect of daily life. Very few people can live without a digital device with which they interact with others using mediated interpersonal and mass communication. Media channels are everywhere, and everyone has access. Media Studies students will be prepared for a wide range of careers, including those in journalism, public relations, marketing, advertising, media production, TV and radio, and social media.​

Modern Languages

The modern languages program develops proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing to prepare students for any kind of language endeavor, as well as to provide all students with the opportunity to develop social and academic linguistic proficiency in a language other than English.

Psychology

This discipline is dedicated to understanding and helping people—whether through improving mental health, understanding the brain, learning about human development, or studying interactions between people. Learn about psychology and the study of how we think, feel and behave.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

The mission of the Utah Tech University ESL Program is to provide instruction and support to help international students develop the academic English skills and awareness of cultural norms and standards needed to succeed at an American university. At UT-ESL, our goal is to be the best ESL institution for preparing international students to succeed at an American university while remaining one of the most affordable programs in the region. We do this through hiring only highly educated and experienced faculty, setting high academic standards for our students, and providing assistance and support for our students that is second to none.

GLOBAL STUDIES

The Global Studies program provides interdisciplinary education in the principal issues confronting today’s globalized world, in order to prepare Utah Tech University students to become global leaders in business, education, government, and the non-profit sector. The program will help students develop the ability to work with people from other cultures, learn and develop intercultural communication skills, learn foreign languages and apply academic credit for study abroad toward a degree. It contains several tracks so students can cater their studies to their areas of interest.
